Borneo Alphabet

Borneo Alphabet was born due to the lack of creative representation of our island local animals in Brunei and our neighbouring island nations. We are mostly familiar with the animals that are mostly portrayed in travel advertisement, which is a bit disheartening due to the fact that we are mostly aware of other international animals and barely acknowledging our own island rich biodiversity. That leads me to my own personal journey as a mother i wanted to find illustrated animals from our own island but I barely could find any.

Which makes me wonder as to why there’s barely any Borneo animals depicted in children alphabet posters. We are so familiar as to the phrase of to nurture our future generation is to lead by example or by making an impact in their livelihood. It is important to educate our future generation showcasing the amount of rich biodiversity we have in our third largest island in the world. And what better way to start nurturing their interest and compassion for our Borneo animals, is when they are little and full of wonder.

In a way its a love letter as a mother to my children and to the rest of the younger generation to come. I wanted to show proudly how beautiful our island animals are, and how important they are to our island ecosystem. Because once they are gone, they are gone forever. And some of these animals are in the red ICUN list.

Illustrating these alphabets have been a labour of love, patience and adoration. Each alphabet is special and unique to their own. And I sincerely hope that they will fill your hearts and home full of love. Just as they have done for mine.
